The combined effects of internal devaluation and fiscal adjustment policies implemented between 2010 and 2016 in Greece are traced in the level of disposable income contraction and the unequal distribution of the economic burdens caused by the prolonged recession. As it is maintained, the introduction of the safety net follows the logic of scarce fiscal resources that should be effectively distributed among those of the population in need, subject to high primary budget surplus targets. Furthermore, the essay focuses on aspects of poverty and income inequality measurement. It examines the variations of several conventional indices as well as other, which are based on differentiated income poverty lines. Results are obtained from original statistical processing of micro-data offered by the annual Survey on Income and Living Conditions (SILC) as well as from secondary sources (Eurostat).
