Gleb Maslov  1@
1 : S.Y.Witte Institute for new industrial development

The reports considers the issue of potential changes in research on economics that will take place as a result of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and explains the relative stability of the number of creative workers in general and economists in particular which can be observed in spite of growing competition in the field as a result of increasing requirements towards a broader spectrum of competencies. It will become necessary to possess a broader range of interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, including those in the area of information technologies, which will open additional research opportunities.

The transition to sustainable development and mechanisms ensuring across-the-board well-being cannot be described in purely economic terms. Therefore, researchers will face many interdisciplinary challenges.
